The cable to the Front Panel is defective, you will have to replace the cable and front panel buttons.  Check the files section. Vy 73 de Bob DJ0RD/WU5T

Og en anden gav dette råd:

Put something that blocks the high heat from the side wall.  In other words, put it between the MEMBRANE cable and the side metal wall.
In fact, anyone with an old 1K, check to see if there is a piece of something, stuck on the side wall allowing the cable to rest on it.
If there isn't one, put something there.
Several pieces of duct tape will work until you get something from the store.  The white stick "squares" that are about 1/16" or more thick work fine.
The heat from the MOSFETs cause that side wall to heat up and the membrane cable laying on the side wall is the problem.
The heat deteriorates the cable and it cracks causing one or more open traces.
Remember, do not clean the contacts on the membrane cable.  I have never found them to get dirty enough to be bad or even intermittent.

My EXPERT 1k-FA will not let one of the keyboard more.
By regret my distress at YAHOO group, I got this message:

And another gave this advice:

The conclusion of this must be that the keyboard must be replaced with a new one, so I ordered a new one from the Danish dealer in Hirtshals, and it has now arrived.

Included in the paper came a description of how to separate the PA-step and get to the front panel controller, but
this description is also available on the web so that it is thoroughly studied before the order to Hirtshals departed. It can be seen
HERE ...

This document is about documenting what I have been doing during the replacement.

limrester, nederst i billedet.

Above is the separate display controller with keyboard-film removed from the front panel, which has not been cleaned for
paste on the picture.

Above is a close up of Keybord cable, carried out by vapor silver wires on transparent plastic.
In the middle of the image a bending, which is done at the factory, and this bending is through 4 years of use have been exposed to
the heat from the power elements in the PA-step, so the links are broken.
In the bag with reserve-keyboard was also a small pad of foam plastic with adhesive on one side which was mounted after W5UQ's
told you so keyboard cable supplied does not come into contact with the hot wall inside the PA coffers.

Above is an overview picture of the dining table in the kitchen where the operation took place. Here with the cleaned front plate, which
the new keyboard to be fitted.

The process, the installation of the new keybord-film on the front, was the one I was most nervous about, but it turned out to be
easy and straightforward, and the instrument was in place in less than 1 minute. Above is the front plate mounted keyboard.

Now the exercise just to gather everything together in the same order as when it was dismantled.

And it was no problem, so after three quarter of an hour, was keybord / display controller reassembled and ready for installation in Experten.

Herover set fra en lidt anden vinkel.

Above viewed from a slightly different angle.

Above is fully assembled Keyboard / Display Controller together with the old and faulty keyboard lying back.

Now, the controller is ready to be mounted in EXPERT'en.

After the installation in EXPERT, works all the buttons again in PA-step with the side of the case is said to be a SUCCESS ... but ...

I must have
made a mistake when installing the controller, although I note that the keyboard works, the step
does not operate, even though it is in the OPERATE mode. It must now be checked.

And it turned out that the PTT cord unnoticed had been pulled out of my radio, Yeasu FT847, in the heat of battle, and NOW does everything as it should.
